Sadly the ski resorts of Andorra have now closed for the season.
We'll keep you updated by email and social media
Soldeu is a small but popular village, perfectly located at the foot of the slopes of the Grandvalira ski domain. It has a vast appeal to skiers, snowboarders and winter sports enthusiasts who are attracted by the superb mountain offering. The village sits at an altitude of 1,800 metres, from here you can hop on the eight seater gondola lift which will take you directly to the main slopes in a matter of minutes.
Such is the appeal and quality of Soldeu (Grandvalira) as a winter sports destination that it regularly attracts a number of top ski and snowboard events, including the much anticipated Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup which has taken place towards the end of February in recent years.
A vast amount of money has been spent on the infrastructure within Soldeu recently, both on and off the slopes; parts of the village (particularly around the main gondola station) have become more upmarket, with some fantastic four and five star hotels and facilities. The jewel in the crown of Soldeu being the superb Sport Hotel Hermitage, a part of the leading hotels of the world group, with an exquisite mountain spa which is also open to the general public. However despite the recent investment, Soldeu still remains a wonderfully down to earth and welcoming village, which also offers plenty of quaint two and three star properties of good quality, appealing to a wide range of international visitors. With excellent facilities for families, couples and groups alike, the resort attracts a diverse range of people, with many holidaymakers returning year after year. There is also an excellent hostel in nearby El Tarter catering well for single travellers on a budget.
As well as the excellent skiing and snowboarding on offer in Grandvalira, another big attraction for visitors is the fun and welcoming après ski scene. Soldeu has some excellent and well known bars and restaurants, including traditional cosy mountain bordas, bustling bars with live music and even a restaurant with a Michelin star chef, the choice is varied and appeals to visitors of all ages and nationalities. To help you save a bit of money whilst you're in town we have organised a few discount vouchers for local restaurants and bars in the area, we update these at the beginning of each season.
You will find all the basic amenities you would expect from a ski village, including a handful of small supermarkets, shops selling quality ski and snowboard gear (not forgetting Andorra's duty free status) and good bus links to the capital Andorra la Vella, as well as the nearby resorts of El Tarter and Pas de la Casa. Families with little ones may be pleased to hear that a couple of hotels in the village have small soft play areas to keep younger guests entertained, there is also a large indoor ice rink in the nearby town of Canillo if you are looking for alternative activities off the slopes.
All in all Soldeu is the perfect base for exploring the vast ski area of Grandvalira by day and enjoying a friendly and laid back après scene by night, add to that the wide choice of accommodation options and you will see why it is a firm favourite with many international visitors.
