Both the El Tarter and Soldeu ski schools are renowned for the excellent level of tuition they provide, from absolute beginner right through to advanced level. Run by Grandvalira, both schools are lucky to have not only English-speaking instructors but lots of instructors originating from the UK — which makes communication during lessons much easier for British and Irish visitors. The Soldeu ski school office is at the top of the Soldeu gondola, just over to the right as you step onto the slopes; the El Tarter office is at the top of the El Tarter gondola, again on the right-hand side.

When lessons run
Group lesson timings.
Group lessons for three to five days start each Monday, with weekend lessons of three hours per day on Saturday and Sunday. In busy weeks classes run in both mornings and afternoons; in quieter weeks all group lessons will be in the morning. Lesson times are assigned at booking — morning slots fill first, so book early.

Ability Levels
Choosing the right level.
Try to grade yourself before your first lesson — at check-in you'll need to go to the appropriate window.
There are four ability levels for skiers and snowboarders in Grandvalira. Don't worry if you're not 100% sure — the instructors will make sure you're moved into a suitable group once the lessons start. Separate classes are arranged for children; if you have kids, check in at the family window so you're all assigned to the same lesson times.
Beginners
Never skied or snowboarded before
Level 1
(Green/Blue): Able to turn right & left and use a drag lift
Level 2
(Blue/Red): Confident on all blue runs
Level 3
(Red/Black): Able to ski or board red runs with confidence and control
